Natasha Leratti asked:

Chic Tough Girl Looks, Military Influences, and Seductive Jumpsuits rule the Runway.

The New Year is barely in the door and we are already looking to our favorite celebrities to show us how to make this our best year in Fashion yet. Anne Hathaway is a celebrity style icon in the making already, with her raven hair and creamy skin. With her fashion break out role in The Devil Wear Prada, the public took notice of her expressive appearance. While recently in the pages of Vogue and InStyle magazines, she resonates in Versace, Thakoon, and Marchesa. Her casual side is appealing to many as well, having been photographed in a military influenced jacket. This Sergeant Pepper inspired look will be hot in 2009, and will be seen in electric blue, orange, and red, in addition to the more traditional look of black or olive. Pair with form fitting pants, boots, and a simple t-shirt. The fashion accessories can be pared down as shiny metallic buttons will festoon across the jackets. Piles of metal chains will be your ideal accessory choice for a plain shirt.

Love her or hate her, Victoria Beckham will continue to rule the fashion world, with the fashionistas waiting hungrily for her next hair style or statement. A fashion brand herself, she will continue to reinvent her own look of elegant flamboyance style. Look to Victoria to be the enduring face of high glamour, as anything worth leaving the house for should be dressed for. Body skimming, elegant dresses with an element of exaggeration are her forte, like the black Dolce dress she wore recently in Dubai. Look for Victoria to also influence the menswear look with her seductive take on wearing high waisted, fluid moving pants that are hot off designer runway. The new soft silhouette of pants will be worn in various lengths this year from chic cropped styles to the floor skimming variety, and topped with smart jackets, feminine blouses, and knits.

While it was recently reported that she hates the words “boho chic”, Kate Hudson is certainly an influence for it. Her laid back California way of dressing makes her look a favorite to women of all ages. She embodies comfort, with a fashion style. Kate’s take on combining patterns, color, and a an easy aesthetic will rule many closets this year – think dresses by Marc by Marc Jacobs, Prada, and M Missoni. Missoni knits feature an incredible weave of colors that give only a nod to the boho look and make knits the comfortable choice. Natasha Leratti offers an affordable knit look at her latest fashion designer collection website, in a citrus kissed yellow mini dress, accented by the ever popular black and white.

As a new celebrity who dresses the celebrities, Rachel Zoe’s own style has taken storm due to her reality show. One can’t miss the larger than life luxurious fur vests she favors, paired with skirts or skinny jeans. While she favors vintage, her look has an exotic flair that evokes a Russia meets West Coat influence. Strong prints in rich colors, chunky knits, and bold jewelry are the staple of her look. We will look to her to show us how to mix unusual textures and prints. Rachel is a perfect example of being able to dress high-low by taking a vintage $2000 Chanel gown and mixing it with a $98 faux fur vest from The Limited. Not only is her look fun and fresh, it inspires our inner designer to take risks in mixing styles.

Tough Girl or Biker Chic will edge its way back in, due to the strong women it evokes. The rock style looks of Rihanna and Pink brings their influence to a look that can be dressed up or down. Rihanna will be a style setter for this year with her stunning good looks and cutting edge fashion style. Her sweet smile accentuates her glam rocker appeal. Little black dresses are topped off with edgy fitted jackets that offer zippers, rips, and a sharper structure. While leather seems like an obvious choice, look for unusual takes on the jacket that include fitted knit sweaters over skinny black pants and boots. Leather pants and thigh high boots are creating a tough but glam look. Studded accents on designer handbags or boots are offset with shiny sequins to bring in a feminine touch. A Balenciaga Biker Bag may set you back thousands of dollars for this look, but consider checking out leratti.com to find her take on new and vintage designer handbags to suit this look.

While it may take awhile for this trend to gain steam, many celebrities have been photographed wearing the new jumpsuit. Kate Hudson, Scarlett Johannsen, and Rosario Dawsen have been seen adding their touch to this retro look. Chunky belts, long chains, and miles of bangles add spunk and glamour to an otherwise simple style. Look for silky, flowy materials that accentuate movement, and show subtle glimpses of skin. Styles will be long or cropped, and will be set off with sexy high heels or boots. The jumpsuit can be dressed down for day, or up for cocktail hour, and may prove to have a versatile ability for the modern women. Look for spring neutrals to bring a safari -tinged feel to the style.

Whoever your style icon may be, develop your own sense of style. Natasha Leratti is a Miami based High End Fashion Designer with a cutting edge vibe and distinct sense of style.

Your Fashion Guru and Stylist,
Natasha Leratti

Create a video blog…instantly.

Sofie Pettersson asked:

New season and new fashion trends!

Finally, the weather is getting warmer and the shops are full of new colorful clothing and shoes.
After a day of shopping in Florence one can see the trends of the year.

One of the hottest trends summer 2008 is “the new boho.

Bohemian style is called boho for short and have many origins and definitions. But in our case it mean open minded, artistic life-style.

Today’s Boho chic look is gazing back at late 1960′s to early 1970′s flower-power fashion. It’s also taking inspiration from 1960s fashion icon Talitha Getty, whose free-spirit, rich-hippie life style is now so trendy.

We can also find inspiration from the African deserts and the south-American traditional textiles.

What to wear:

This years boho-hippie look is about working with transparent materials with many layers, a perfect look could be – tunic, vest, long skirt, a wide belt on the waist and on the feet we will find gladiator leather flat sandals or a wooden wedge sandal.

An alternative to the long skirts and dresses are the wide, high waist jeans which are making a big come back this year. Choose a stone washed pair and wear it with a tunic or a loose t-shirt and a pair of flat sandals, like flip-flops.

Don’t forget about the most important thing, accessories! As many big wooden bangles your wrists can carry on.

How to wear:

Choose earthy colors like rust-red, mustard-yellow, moss-green, brown and a touch of turquoise. Use patterns, big and small flowers with stripes and dots!

The new boho is a trend full of details. Decorations like beads, woven items, fringes and flounces that are used in jewelry and to decorate purses, belts and shoes etc. The accessories take a lot of space they are big, colorful and very worked trough, every detail has a meaning for the outfit.
Leather and suede are also important elements for the ethno-chic look. A brown jacket or vest in suede goes very well with the style. The shoes and belts should be braided or made by aged leather with brass buckles.

The Shoes:

On the shoe front this year we have three very important models; one are the peep-toe models which is making a big come-back this year. They fit very good with the boho-style you can wear them bare feet or combine them with the layered style and wear them with a pair of colorful knee stockings.

The second is the wedge that gives every short or tall person the chance to carry up a long skirt or dress better. Use wedges with canvas, leather and raffia or wooden heels and you will get the right look.

The third shoe model that is a “must” for the new boho look is the gladiator sandal. A big hit this summer! It gives a cool contrast with the flowing boho fashion. With a simple white tunic and a pair of leggings the gladiator sandals are an excellent choice.

The final touch:

The make-up is simple, just some mascara if you want. Crazy curls, parting on the middle and a braided hair-tie will do the hair style!

The best thing about the Bohemian style is that nothing has to “match.” The pieces you choose should lay well and they work together to give you a classy, Boho chic look. Think ethnic, organic. Think relaxed, think vintage.

Caffeinated Content

Joel Kay asked:

Imagine a bohemian girl in Edwardian London and she wears long swishing gowns with a high Edwardian neck collar.. and maybe a neck tie too and maybe her ankle boots. This is the bohemian look of the last century. and now the new century and Boho Chic. Boho Chic is no longer ‘in’ but remember its look! There were the floaty skirts, the Ugg boots so popular when Boho Chic was at its height and the gilets.

Remember the new elegance of the 1900s when the corset was disappeared and also the crinoline. There was something new and elegant. Boho chic is a kind of decadent look which belongs to the new century. It is a mishmash of fashions, boots, gilet…With the 1900s look and now the Boho look, there was a new silhouette. In Boho and now Foho chic, there is an aspiration towards a new silhouette. A silhouette which doesn’t belong to high fashion but to the worlds of bohemia and festival-life. It is not concerned with waist and hips lines. it is not concerned with ‘separates’ as in shirt and dress.

Remember the furry gilets of boho chic! Look at the furry gilets..they created the high waisted look and gilets were something that caught the imagination. Indeed gilets were something new! Yes they were really something new. They were a new fashion. They could be worn with a broderie anglaise top or light shirt. With the gilet, there was no longer the usual ‘separates’ of top and bottom, skirt and top.

In Boho chic, there were the gilets, the bold new use of embroidery, the boots and floaty skirts. Remember too that when Boho chic was popular, there was also a turn towards vintage wear which manifested itself in the use of influences from the Edwardian age. Edwardian and vintage ‘chic’ as well as ‘uniform’ and military chic were ‘in’. In 2006, as Boho chic was coming to the end, there was also the revival of broderie anglaise and this latter ‘look’ may have led naturally into the foho look. The tunic look is still ‘in’ as can be seen from the popularity of smocks. And a more festival-like flouncy dress has replaced the floaty skirt.

The mini-dress is important now in foho chic. Imagine a girl going to the music festivals in the late 60s and early 70s. What would she wear. She might wear a mini! She might wear a swishy dress. This is Foho chic but it’s not really rock chic..it’s more a new type of hippy chic influenced by the bohemian look which preceded it. This is foho chic..it is something ‘seventies’, natural, and hippy but bohemian too.

Brenna Cleeland asked:

Chances are you’re on one side of the fence: you love the Boho style that ruled 2005 or are sick of wearing fashions that make you feel like a newly-eighteen Olsen. The good news is everyone will love what fall and winter fashion has to offer. Fans of the look that made Sienna Miller a fashion icon will definitely love the over-the-top detail that will continue from Boho Chic into fall. Others that never felt comfortable in heavy jewelry, metal-adorned belts and shoes and flowy, diaphanous skirts, the new crop of fashion offers a different approach to rich detail that may make you feel more pulled together than looking like a gypsy.

Bold accessories will remain a staple in every fashion-forward woman’s wardrobe. Sorry Boho Chic haters, belts and boots look like they have staying power along with pendants, over-sized earrings, long chains and drop earrings. They may be staying on the shelves, but stones, feathers and shells that decorated the ears of spring and summer’s hottest fashionistas will be replaced by rhinestone-encrusted chandeliers and delicate drops. The long necklaces paired with the over-stated earrings will morph slightly from heavy, multi-layered, multi-stone piece to a simpler, chic, one-strand accessory. While the length and materials remain the same (gold still the winner), the detail will shift from Boho’s accessories to fall and winter’s fabrics.

Ultra-rich fabrics like lace and brocade are the hottest additions to fall and winter lines. Back-again-black along with gray and purple are the most popular for jaw-dropping dresses, frilly tops and tweed trousers that will line racks and closets everywhere in upcoming months. The feminine, flowy look will still be desirable, but it will be achieved with blouson skirts and culottes instead of sheer, floor-length numbers. If you’re concerned newer more regal fabrics like velvet, lace and tweed will still look make you look more thirties than twenties, you can still look eclectic-chic by matching new pieces with your favorite over-stated Boho belts and jewelry. If you’re still worried about shifting from fun and flirty to dark and serious, mix fabrics to achieve an even more eclectic look: there are NO rules this season about mixing tweeds and velvet or brocades with lace. More than anything, have fun mixing your existing styles with a totally new style to find your personal fit–fall and winter will bring plenty of opportunity to get away with experimenting.

Alexandra Zeb asked:

In my opinion, there’s more to being bohemian than style, it’s an attitude! Everyday I see celebrities like Mary-Kate Olsen and Sienna Miller waltz down the streets of Manhattan, looking as if they don’t have a care in the world. The boho-chic chick’s personality is a down-to-earth, natural, and breezy personality, hence the floaty articles they drape themselves in. Here is a list of the top five items one must have to obtain ultimate boho-chic-dom…

1. Ugg Boots for winter, neutral-colored flats or strappy flat sandals for summer. As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, Ugg Boots are practically taking over the streets of Los Angeles and New York City in large hordes that look somewhat similar to small dogs. Personally, I think they are hideous, but I’ve been told the sheer comfort and warmth of Ugg’s is purely remarkable. To the point where I’m about to finally go out and buy myself a pair. Besides, I’m certainly not a gal to tell another gal to fore go comfort for some outrageously uncomfortable stilettos! No way! More power to you for sticking to your guns!

In the summertime, neutral colored flats are a healthy and comfortable substitute for your Ugg’s. Either that or find a pair of fun, flat strappy sandals in tan, brown, white, black, or even metallic colors to mix things up a bit.

2. Big Shades. Yes, we’ve all seen how important it is to own (at least) one pair of ridiculously large sunglasses that covers up to 2/3 of your face. My favorite aspect of big shades is the part where you can neglect to put on any makeup at all, save for some lip gloss if you’re feeling up to it (which I’m usually not). It is the perfect solution to the lazy girl’s day. I have stolen this advice from the very wise and savvy fashion guru, Victoria Beckham. For those of you New York City chicas, I just recently purchased a pair of Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses from Loehmann’s at a heavenly $98. For those of you who do not have a Loehmann’s or a Century 21 in your backyard, simply check out your local TJ Maxx or Marshall’s to see if they have any discount designer shades. No one said you have to spend half of a month’s paycheck on sunglasses!

3. Distressed Jeans of the skinny and slightly flare variety. Of course everyone knows by now that in order to comfortably tuck your jeans into the Ugg Boots, you must own a pair of skinny jeans. Advisory: for those of you who wear your jeans outside of the Ugg boot, please stop. This is fashion suicide.

4. Floppy beret in the winter. Fedora in the summer. This winter’s hat phenomenon could be seen in the form of the floppy beret. Celebrities like Jennifer Garner topped their tresses with this magnificently flattering piece, particularly for those who have longer hair. In the summer, nothing spells chic better than donning a classy, tan-colored fedora — a style we have seen best rocked by songstress Alicia Keyes.

5. Last but not least comes the jewelry. Complimentary jewelry is very important to finish up the boho-chic look. Choose the wrong type accessory, and you could, dare I say it, be arrested by the fashion police (or by Naomi Campbell). So listen carefully. As with many styles, layers are very important when accessorizing. Whether it be wearing multiple bangles on each arm, or wearing multiple necklaces, you really can’t go wrong with the layered look. When adding accessories to your jewelry bin, experiment with different metallics and patterns, get wild with animal prints or weed out jewelry that has an earthy-feel. Small hints of leather, feathers, or natural rock will go perfectly with the green theme that boho-chic epitomizes.

And remember, you ultimate boho-chic you, that life is far too short to sweat the small stuff!

Caffeinated Content for WordPress

Sarah Hathorn asked:

The department stores are beginning to stock their floors with the latest fall fashions and trends. Do you ever go shopping for a few new items to modernize your look and come home empty handed, feeling overwhelmed? Every professional woman needs to understand how to look at the newest trends, and decide what they want to incorporate in order to look contemporary and age appropriate. When you update your look to include a few modern styles, it conveys to the working world that you care about your image, stay abreast of fashion and want to look powerful, but chic. For years, as a Store Manager for Macy’s, I used to see women come into the store and aimlessly become frustrated and confused, looking for a few fun pieces and not knowing where to spend their hard-earned dollars. In this article I will share with you my twelve “must-have’s,” which will help you remain focused and budget-conscious while shopping to pick up a few trendy pieces to update your closet basics. Get ready! Here’s my personal trend shopping list for every woman who wants a classic-stylish look for fall.

1). Suits: Retro-Style

This season we are seeing a return of the retro power suit. If you need a new suit this fall for work or dress, look for a skirted suit or a pantsuit with a straight and narrow look, a timeless style. The season’s new fabrics will be woolen tweeds, leopard prints and boiled-knits. You will also find more detailing on jackets like military-inspired epaulets. If you are shopping for an evening suit, menswear styles for women return this season with tuxedo suits perfect for any black tie affair.

2). Dresses: Every Woman Needs One

The dress returns and goes beyond last season’s big sheath and shift trend. This fall the designers are creating flourishing floral prints, frilly silhouettes, tailored sheaths, hourglass silhouettes, ladylike shirtdresses, and flirty Bohemian styles. For evening dresses, sophisticated elegance is seen in feminine lace cocktail designs, vibrant-colored velvets replacing the dark colors of last winter, and sweeping silk gowns in gold taffeta. Want to look slimmer? Dresses in any style are key items for every woman, designed to show her shapely legs, a smaller area of the body – creating a slimmer silhouette. Every modern woman should own a few dresses for work and play.

3). Skirts: Slim or Full

This season we see full, flirty skirts, which will be the latest trend. These will be in A-line or dirndl styles, in graphic prints, lace, floral, metallic or solids with great detailing. These fuller skirts look best on everyone when they are hemmed to hit you at mid-knee. With a fuller skirt it is key to balance the proportion with a more fitted top. These skirts can transition to a business casual day at the office when you pair them with a placket-front blouse or a classic twin set. Pencil and straight skirts continue to reign this season for that classic-elegant look. From all my years in the retail fashion and image consulting business, I haven’t found a woman yet who doesn’t look great in one of these four skirt styles. Try on a few styles and see which ones look best on you.

4). The Modern Classic White Shirt

I’m so delighted that this trend continues as I coach my clients that this is the one item that every woman needs on her wardrobe essential list. This season look for an updated style. It can have ruffles for a feminine look, three-quarter lantern sleeves for a more dramatic look, princess seams running through the silhouette creating a slimming look, or an updated shirttail that you choose to let hang over your pants for a more modern twist on an old classic item. I love my white shirts and I own several of them. I wear my new updated styles with jeans on a fall day, with my black suit for a more powerful look, or with suede or corduroy pants for that country chic style. If you find a few styles you like, stock up on these great basics to round out your wardrobe.

5). Feminine & Sexy Blouses

Ultra feminine and girly blouses continue to come in exquisite fabrics with frills, ruffles or pintucks. Reinvented lace blouses are the chicest, sexiest items to own for fall. The lace top has a sexy hint of peek-a-boo to add a bit of drama to any ensemble. Everyone needs a few of these great dressy blouses when a dressier style is needed for an event. Pair these blouses with black pants or a neutral-toned pencil/straight skirt for an elegant and sophisticated, yet feminine look. These new tops are great to wear on date night coordinated with a pair of indigo premium denim pants and dressy sandals or stilettos.

6). Pants: Slim to The New Wider Leg

Depending on your shape, this season you have a lot of choices. Slim leg styles continue and are best when worn with floaty-style tops. The tailored straight leg trouser is a great classic style that everyone can wear – but be daring and try one in a new menswear pinstripe or updated tweed. The new wider leg trouser is the hot item in pants this season. Last season we saw the barely wide leg and now it goes more dramatic. This wider-leg version looks perfect on a woman with an inverted triangle shape or boyish hips.

7). Chic Coats

Every woman I know needs at least one statement coat in her closet. It doesn’t have to be a heavy wool coat if you live out west or in the south; it could be a trench coat or a lightweight wool style. Coats also keep you stylish when you are out in the rain or snow. Look for a fun, statement coat like an updated trench coat with a military influence, the new oval silhouette, the quilted coat, a leather biker style, a pea coat, a cape, or a coat with an exaggerated architectural collar. There are some great new modern styles this year to layer up and keep you toasty warm no matter where you live.

8). Stylish Sweaters

Cardigans remain strong this year and I personally love them for great layering. Have you ever noticed that something magical happens when you add a great cardigan sweater over a typical pair of dress trousers or jeans with a tailored blouse? Instantly you look more polished and professional. I think these are a great alternative to jackets in a business casual work environment or on casual Fridays. This season you will see the cardigan in chunky knits, layered with a belt. Cabled sweaters will also be big this fall. Dressier sweaters will be embellished with crystal beads, and metallic threads for a more luxurious feel. Look for some great colors, and add something really comfortable and cozy to your wardrobe.

9). Statement Jewelry

This season jewelry is bold and elegant. Shop for crystal cuffs, architectural-shaped necklaces, large retro hoop earrings, and multi-strand necklaces of beads or pearls. If you aren’t comfortable wearing the large artsy modern necklaces, and you have a more conservative style, add a pair of small wide hoop earrings or long multiple strands of pearls, like Coco Channel, to your collection.

10). Newest, Hottest, Latest Shoes & Boots

Do you have a shoe fetish? Well, this season you can have your pick of all types of shoes from flats to sky-high heels. The hot trends are contrast-toe tips, cone and/or banana heels, wide straps, and perforation detailing. In boots, ankle boots return with updated buckles and zippers, which give them an alluring feel. These are great to wear with work trousers, or if you are young, wear them with colored tights under dresses and skirts. High heel pumps and stilettos are still timeless classics for those dressier occasions. If you’re a bit more dramatic, you can express your style with some edgier options with architectural accents like cutouts and trendy heels. The flat continues to be a basic to be worn with jeans.

11). The It-Bag

Medium-sized bags are the newest trend in handbags this season. Shop for the latest styles like a boho-style bag with suede and fringe detailing, a classic clutch, or go for that country casual feel with a satchel made out of alligator or suede. The newest style for fall is the top frame bag which is a structured handbag made out of crocodile leather with a short handle. It’s a great new item to add to your essentials because it is a classic, tailored bag.

12). Accent Pieces

Belts and scarves are great accent pieces that can give your outfits a lot of style. This season belts are both narrow and wide. Use one to help you create the hint of a waistline, unless you have a prominent tummy area. If you do not have a waistline, don’t emphasize it. If you are curvy or triangle-shaped, use this belt as an accent to show off your curves. Short, graphic scarves return this season. Use beautiful scarves to add some color up by your face and divert the to give attention upward and away from your problem areas.

Keeping up with trends and incorporating them into your seasonal wardrobe is fun, once you understand what they are. Oftentimes, when clients feel they look dowdy or matronly, it’s because they are not incorporating a few modern touches into their ensembles. If you are on a budget for fall, find three or four of these “must-have’s” and let them work to create an updated, stylish look for your business wardrobe.

Caffeinated Content for WordPress
