Boho Handbags for All Your Fashion Accessory Needs

I am my experiment, I am my own work of art, I am free, I am ‘Me’. The spirited gypsy, the rebellious bohemian. While the 60s may have faded in a green tinted haze, the decade’s undoubtedly eccentric fashion trends have reestablished themselves, but with a modern twist. In the era of mass production and botox, bohemian accessories or ‘Boho Chic’- in fashion parlance - is the new mantra of individuality, of leaving your mark, of trendiness.

Reminiscent of the flower power days, boho chic is earthy, crunchy, comfortable and stunningly stylish in its current avatar, adding that extra zing to any outfit. Scores of celebrities sporting this seemingly wild, bright and layered look is a testament to its popularity. And, for all those looking to spice up their personas, there’s one thing you just cannot miss; the bohemian handbags, also called the hobo bag, boho bag and even the dumpling bag owing to its characteristic crescent shape and a long strap.

And, I bet you didn’t know this one; each boho bag is unique owing to the fact that they are almost always handmade and no two bags will ever look the same, giving you an exclusive sense of style. The bags are designed with a non conventional style driven by a creative aesthetic, rather than classic styling. For those with a taste for the exotica, the bag has its roots in the handicrafts of tribal India.
Some of the patterns, characteristics and markers of boho bags are:

  • Shapes: While the crescent shape is the most popular, having acquired an almost cult status among boho fashionistas, rectangular, square and oval shaped bags also do the rounds. These bags are big on space and utility with pockets and a closed top more often than not.
  • Fabric: Natural materials, such as leather, suede, fabrics like cotton, silk; hemp and jute are commonly used in boho bags. Boho bags made in fabric are most popular as far as the casual look is concerned.
  • Colors: Red, Blue, Orange, Purple, it’s like an explosion of rainbows. True to its form, there are no strict color codes.
  • Details: Again, the range of possibilities is infinite, ranging from fringes, patchwork, beadwork, mirrors, sequins, embroidery, zari work, brocades and lace, the basic underlying theme being boho.

The trend of Boho bags gained momentum in the year 2005 and it’s not tough to see why. The greatest advantage of Boho bags is their versatility, the fact that you can match them with any outfit. Simple patchwork or tie and dyed bags are perfect for the casual day out, fringes and leather tassels add that uber cool glamour for a night on the town or u can just go luxe with the glittery sequins or patterned brocades. Whether you are wearing jeans or an evening dress or a long Boho skirt, ultra chic was never this easy. While you can buy boho bags at any handbag shop worth its name, the web offers better deals and more variety. However, always compare prices before making a purchase or just head straight to you closest thrift shop.

Welcome to Boho Chic-dom

Fashion is more than style or showing off- it’s an attitude. The same goes for Boho fashion. A gal who’s Boho chic is all about being natural, down- to – earth and breezy without a care in the world. Like Sienna Miller waltzing down the streets of Manhattan. A Boho chic chick stands out with the floaty articles cladding her up. Welcome to Boho Chic- dom. But don’t forget these Boho essentials:

1. Strappy sandals or neutral-colored flats (for summer); Ugg boots (for winter). Just like puppies, Ugg boots has invaded the streets of New York and Los Angeles. Worn in huge hordes by Boho style lovers. Wearing Ugg boots gives you sheer comfort, and when it comes to fashion, comfort ought not to be forgone, although stilettos have their place (somewhere).

Have a breezy Boho look in the summer with flat, strappy sandals in black, white, tan, brown or metallic colors. Or neutral colored flats which are easy to go with, too.

2. Skinny or Slightly flare distressed jeans. Perfect with your Ugg boots, but please don’t commit fashion suicide by wearing your jeans outside your Ugg Boot. That’s why you’d need a pair of skinny jeans- to tuck into the boots.

3. Big shades. Own at least one ridiculously large sunglasses that covers about 2/3 of your face. Covers quite some space, that’s why you can get away with no make – up. At least all you’d need is a lip gloss. Sometimes Boho chic is the perfect solution to a particularly lazy gal’s day. A Dolce and Gabbana pair from Loehmann’s comes at a heavenly price of $98. If a Loehmann or a century 21 isn’t nearby, you drop by Marshall’s or your local TJ Maxx to buy discount designer shades.

4. In summer, don’t forget your fedora. In winter, it’s the beret. Don a classy tan colored fedora in the summer- it spells Boho chic perfectly. Alicia Keys best rocked this summer boho fashion best. Winter on the other hand is the season for the floppy beret phenomenon. It’s winter boho chic for those with long hair, like Jennifer Garner topping her tresses with a marvelous piece.

5. Finish up your boho look with complementing jewelry. Be wary of choosing the wrong jewelry- the fashion police is nearby and they’d definitelly arrest you. Take note of layers when accessorizing- it’s how it goes with many styles. You can’t go wrong with the layered look. Wearing multiple necklaces or multiple bangles on each arm does the trick. Different mettalics are a trendy addition to your boho jewelry bin. The same goes for accessories with different patterns, wild animal prints or jewelries with an earthy feel. Green theme boho chic lovers find that small hints of feathers, leathers or rock are musts in their collection.

For the ultimate boho chic chick, there’s no sweating the small stuff- for life is too short. Carefree, candid and breezy fashion is boho fashion. The boho chic feels it, lives it and wears it.

Hippie Style is Fashion That Says A Lot

Do you have the “hippie” mindset? It was way back in the 1960’s when the hippie counterculture started. The hippie movement, more than advocating peace and freedom, was also a lifestyle. A true- blue hippie was a believer of peacefully protesting against established norms of the society and the political arena in place, and this belief they manifested in how they lived, and looked as well. From waking to sleeping, from head to toe, a hippie is all about liberation and freedom of self- expression.

The same goes for fashion, too. As one might expect, hippie style is an odd way of dressing up, coupled with a odd way of conducting oneself. Clothing hippie style is rather eccentric, along with sporting long hair for men, and sometimes even going barefoot. Hippies scream “freedom from society”, and with how they looked they stood out quite starkly from the crowd.

A long- haired guy clad in sandals or maybe barefoot, tie- dyed shirt, a vest and bell bottom pants is a usual picture of a hippie. Ladies on the other hand often sport colorful peasant blouses matched with long, full skirts.

Like history, fashion repeats itself. That’s why fashion trends at the height of the hippie movement are taking the stage again, modernized and made mainstream. It may have gone out of style for some time, but hippie fashion has caught on. Take for instance the bell bottom pants- it’s a world wide fashion hit. Bell bottom pants are the “it” jeans nowadays. Fashion savvy women opting to go feminine these days can wear the same style of long, full skirts, added with new creative designs and made with different fabrics. The peasant blouses are coming out as a worldwide success as well. From blouses, they have evolved into peasant dresses, a fashion favorite just the same.

A lot of people still find tie- dyed shirts attractive, with a variety of garments to choose from. Other than shirts, tank tops, dresses, skirts,  sundresses, hats and even undies are tie- dyed. During summer, tie- dyed fashion is quite catchy with its bright colors.

Hippie fashion is making quite a strong fashion statement with its unique and eccentric impression. Bold and undaunted, hippie fashion speaks freedom of expression and individuality. Hippie style has found quite a good place in the wide fashion arena that accepts the weird as trendy and beautiful in the long run.

Modern day hippies still wear the same “odd” clothes, but they’re not as odd as they used to be. It’s because the hippie style has become a fashion mainstream. The hippie get- up is in fact not limited to hippies these days. Fashionistas of all sorts would like to wear it, too.

Hippie fashion is eccentric and daring, and it still associated with hippie values. The hippie get up always speaks what it stood for, and that’s freedom from restrictions and being your own person. Peace and love and a beautiful free life. That’s why a hippie in their fashion wants to show off a peaceful, positive outlook.

The Fun, Frilly and Comfy Boho Style

The plain and the usual can get to be such a blah. For most things, and especially your clothes. If you’ve been wearing the same old thing, or the same old style for sometime now, how about a bit of a change? After all, what you wear affects your moods. Fashion is a fun way of expressing yourself, and your artistic side, too. And how you clad yourself up actually conveys a message to others.

So how about adding a bit of artistry to what you wear, or going Bohemian. What’s Boho style? Boho style is street- clothing style. A plus point for Boho Style clothing is that it’s the most convenient way of dressing up. Street clothes mixed and matched and made to look presentable is Bohemian dress- up. What’s more, it’s your own unique style.

Start sorting out your closet. Look for outfits with a shade of artistry in them, Adding accessories to your catchy get- up definitely highlights your look. But then again, if you’re into accentuating your curves or your muscles, you might not be up for Boho dress- up. Bohemian clothing are basically the loose types. Comfort and artistry is what Boho style is all about.

Other than your usual body fit shirts and skimpy dresses, why not try the other side of the fashion fence? Variety makes a person more interesting, especially with dressing up. Boho fashion is about being cool and comfy. You don’t have to worry about your skirt being too short, or that your blouse is way too loud or colorful. It’s taking it easy with your clothes and you’re comfortable enough to go about with your daily activities. But not putting aside style and individuality. You get to project your personality, and without baring too much of your skin.

You can add as much accessories as you want to frill your artistic clothes up. That’s Boho style. Have fun and be creative in expressing yourself through fashion – Boho fashion.

If you love that style that made Sienna Miller a fashion icon, then you’ll love going Boho, especially with the new crop of fashion offering a different approach to rich detail. If you haven’t been enthused with wearing heavy jewelry, diaphanous skirts and metal- adorned belts or shoes, the latest Boho trend would make you feel more pulled together than looking like a gypsy.

For fashion- forward Boho gals, bold accessories remain as staples. Over- sized earrings, drop earrings, long chains along with boots and belts keep their staying power. Delicate drops and rhinestone- encrusted chandeliers take over stones, feathers and shells that used to adorn fashionistas’ ears. Overstated earrings paired with long necklaces would morph from heavy and multi- layered to simplier, one- strand chic accessories.

When it comes to fabric, there are NO RULES about mixing brocades with lace, or tweeds and velvet. By all means, experiment. Have huge fun mixing your style with the latest style to find your perfect, personal fit.

If you want to get into the Boho craze, start looking online for tips about what to mix and match. For a good buy, you can shop online or visit your local mall or store.

Top Five Spring Trends 2009

Sarah Hathorn asked:

With the dark dreary days of winter behind us and the smell of spring on the horizon, it's time to think about adding a few of this season's latest trends into your wardrobe. This season people are shopping differently than in years past. I advise all of my professional clients that it is not necessary to invest thousands of dollars on a new spring wardrobe. Learn to shop in your closet and make a list of the casual outfits or working suits that need a bit of spice and magic to bring them alive for spring. Simply take your list and this Top Five Trends for Spring article to your favorite stores to help you interpret the trends and select a few new pieces while still watching your budget. If you add four to six new items to your spring/summer wardrobe, you will look quite stylish and modern.

Before we talk about the trends, it is always important to understand the colors for the upcoming season. Pantone, the company that works with the fashion industry and designers, has introduced the new colors on the spring runway to be in shades of melon, lemon yellow, dark citron green, violet, fuchsia red, blue and neutral tones like soft lavender, slate grey and rose dust.

1). Neutral Tones

I personally love neutral tones. I feel there is so much versatility and elegance to a woman who knows how to project style and sophistication through the harmony of dressing in one neutral tone from head to toe. Spring's neutral palette is more subdued than last season. It is highlighting barely-there tints like alabaster, cement, grayed blues, pale camel and soft blush hues. Along with this trend you will see how white is used as a neutral and mixed with gold this season as we move further into the summer months

Jackets / Tops / Blouses - Jackets are cropped trench styles, tailored blazers and neutral pantsuits in beautiful fabrics. After all, don't we always notice the woman who wears an exquisite fabric with a few details that can make a boring neutral color come alive and look smashing? For weekend wear, smock tops and blouses will be in metallic and matte tones to add some texture to those great white summer pants. I love mixing neutrals with white. It's so fresh and clean looking!

Pants - This season look to add a few pairs of slim, cropped pants to your casual wardrobe. These pants are more flattering on medium to tall women, as the pant just skims the silhouette.

Dresses - Neutral tones will be shown in all types of dresses including shirtdresses, casual dresses with ruffled collars and jersey styles. Don't forget to look for fun details that add some gathering, like fine smocking details on these solid styles throughout the waist, hem, or upper bodice to give some pizzazz to that plain neutral dress.

Accessories - Are you tired of all those same ol' handbag styles? Look for the long bag with short handles, which is a new style of bag for spring. A soft shape, like a slouchy bag, looks great when paired with a more casual outfit. For work try a new soft leather clutch in a neutral tone, or the new white handbag that will go with your entire summer work wardrobe. Spice up your shoes a bit by wearing natural materials, woven leather, woven metallic and neutral tones with pops of color like yellow or blue on the shoe. Opened-up footwear will call for those polished toes to be seen this spring, as you will want to wear more peep-toe pumps, as well as sandals in great metallic and neutral tones. White shoes return, and you can look more modern by shopping for ones with accents of gold added to the white leather. If on a tight budget, think about adding a few pieces of jewelry, especially brushed metals. Look for white and gold throughout the accessories departments in handbags, shoes, jewelry and belts.

2). Cuban Colors

Color is back this season in addition to those fabulous new neutrals. Cuban colors are not the bold bright hues like in seasons past, but a palette of mid-tones that are new for spring.

For ready-to-wear pieces you will find colorful prints and patterns with a mix of stripes, floral, polka dots, plaids and checks. Colorful silhouettes will be simple but revolve around core wardrobe pieces like blouses, jackets and skirts.

Jackets / Blouses / Tops - Fitted blazers and belted jackets in fun colors will be woven throughout this colorful trend. Dressy colored blouses and shirts will be embellished with details like pin tucks, ruffles, and cutout lace sleeves. For your casual wardrobe try a scarf-printed top, bold graphic floral or a colorful smock top paired with white slacks or jeans.

Sweaters - Buy a new sweater for your business casual look and layer your ensemble to look more professional this season. These will be in citrus colors, as well as patterned sweaters like argyle, striped, floral and geometric.

Skirts / Pants - To show off your great legs, wear a variety of great spring skirts from the dirndl, gathered, pencil and tulip styles in everything from solids to floral and tonal stripes. Instead of denim for casual this spring, look for the new non-denim pant - great cotton and Lycra pants in white, khaki, or stone. They actually look better paired with the mid-tone color and neutrals of spring. If you love your Capri's, opt for a pair of slim cropped pants in a Crayola

Celebrity Jewelry Sighting – Sienna Miller

Alexandra Zeb asked:

Sienna Miller is known for many things, mainly her ridiculously public entanglement with Jude Law and her unpleasant comments about the lovely city of Pittsburgh. But Sienna has some positive qualities too! Of course we all recognize that she is absolutely beautiful and is an up-and-coming actress, having graced the big screen in such films as: Alfie, Layer Cake, Casanova, and Factory Girl. But it is quite possible that Sienna's greatest achievement to date is her impeccable taste in style. Sienna Miller has helped to define the phenomenon that is boho-chic.

Similar to boho-chic compadre Mary-Kate Olsen, Sienna has mastered this thrown-together-at-the-last-minute-and-still-look-fabulous style. What appeals to me personally about boho-chic, is that the entire ensemble actually looks somewhat comfortable. These tousled celebs strut around in Ugg Boots and mega-size sunglasses, floaty embroidered shirts and worn, skinny jeans. Seeing that I am a girl whose idea of dressing up involves a "nice pair of jeans" I'm absolutely digging it!

Another very appealing aspect of boho-chic is the accessories! Here are some necessary purchases one must make in order to achieve ultimate boho-chic fabulousness...

1. Layers are, absolutely, a must in the land of bohemian fun. Dig through your drawers to find several bangle bracelets and throw 'em all on! The more the merrier, especially if they are of varying size and theme! The same theory goes for necklaces! Either wrap long necklaces around your neck several times, or pair two or three necklaces together to create the layered look.

2. Big rock rings. Green is definitely the theme, as the boho-chick always incorporates elements of nature into her ensemble. Large cocktail rings featuring natural rocks or gems are definitely an earthy touch to your spice up your digits.

3. Dangling Geometric Earrings. Sienna has often been spied sneaking around town behind big shades, a floppy beret, and large dangling earrings. Our favorite pair to date was a pair of bronze, cut-out, circle shaped earrings. The bronze is key because it complements all metals and colors. Don't be afraid to incorporate other fun shapes, such as diamonds, triangles, and ovals!

Bohemian Chic Style

Celeste Yates asked:

Originally Bohemian was a lifestyle, back in the days of Oscar Wilde. In fact Oscar Wilde lived the Bohemian lifestyle. Today it has been revolutionised into a complete fashion and interior decorating style.

"A cynic is a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing" - Oscar Wilde

Bohemian chic is all about combining vintage pieces, which hold memories and giving them new life so they can carry on building memories. By simply flinging a throw or scarf over an old leather couch you will give it pizazz and rejuvenate it. By keeping the style clean and adding hip-undertone pieces, you will give the room a lift.

"Fashion is a form of ugliness, so intolerable that we have to alter it every 6 months" - Oscar Wilde.

Owing to bohemian chic style being a combination of old and new, it is also a combination of different styles. Using different lush textures and intricate patterns essentially creates the true bohemian feeling. With rich rhapsody colours and brocade, different feels and looks combine to create the scene.

"Art is the most intense work of individualism that the world has known." - Oscar Wilde

Because of the different styles, colours do tend to be rather neutral for the most part. Generally earthy colours with spicy colours scattered in between. Overall the ambience must be light and airy, although candles and vintage lanterns create a different feel at dusk

"I have simple tastes. I am always satisfied with the best." - Oscar Wilde

The actual term Bohemian is the gypsy phrase for Good Home. The philosophy behind it is to live in harmony with the earth and all life forms. Therefore, bringing in elements of the earth, whether it is plants, ferns or crystals, into the space will assist.

At the end of the day, a true bohemian style is to have a room that reflects all aspects of yourself and your travels. What makes you comfortable and relaxed is the true basis of the style. As Oscar Wilde said "To love oneself is the beginning of a life long romance."

Fall 2008 Fashion Trends – Secrets to Shopping

Sarah Hathorn asked:

Fall '08 has something for everyone. It's important to remember that wearing the latest trends in fashion doesn't make you have style. What truly defines a woman's style is when she is confident with who she is from the inside out, what styles complement her coloring and figure shape, and which trends best express her authenticity. She understands how to edit all the trends seen in the latest magazines, select a few trends that resonate with her and update her classic wardrobe items. Understanding how to incorporate one or two trends is key. You never want to wear multiple trends from top to toe. Keep it simple and polished. Here is my interpretation of fall's latest, greatest trends for women of all ages. These four secret trends will help you take high fashion to an everyday level and assist you in selecting a few trends to keep you looking fashion forward and chic on a budget.

This season the designers are creating a more mysterious, glamorous look. Styles are redesigned from the 40's, 70's, and 80's to highlight strong silhouettes with a sophisticated edge, femininity and rock 'n roll chic. This fall designers are creating structured tailoring silhouettes mixed with luxurious fabrics and embellishments. The timeless classics continue to be updated to look more sophisticated but still remain a great wardrobe basic. It's the return of power dressing in suits, menswear and dresses.

Before we explore the four fashion trend statements, it's important to review what's new in the way of color, pattern, texture and detailing for fall, as a lot of these elements will be in more than one fashion story.

Color Is Back

This season color reigns over the basic black from days gone by. Berry tones and other vivid colors will be seen in ready-to-wear and accessories to add a bold splash of color to enliven your look. For the professional woman, this season you want to build your core wardrobe basics in neutral tones like navy, brown, camel and stone. If you need a new coat this season, you will see shades of sorbet, making a statement coat look more modern. Shop for a coat in a soft gray to the lightest purple or pink - a nice change from the old dark colors like black, brown and camel.

Pattern & Print Pizazz

Fabrics are going in a new direction - towards luxe. Expect to see luxury fabrics with details like gold metallic silk threads, as well as metallic and crystal embellishments. Floral continue to flourish but transitions into a winter floral design reminiscent of the 80's chintz interior decorating fabrics. For casual dressing this season, go back to the English countryside where tartans, checks and precious plaids give us a casual-country style.

Texture & Details Make A Difference

Nothing can add more style and magic to an outfit than texture and great details. For a more casual lifestyle look for chunky and cabled sweaters, boiled-knits and tweed suits. For more evening allure, shop for textures like lace and velvets to take you back to the Victorian Era. Look for details on clothing, like suede and leather inserts, studs, military details like epaulets, animal prints, piping and banding, sequins and crystals and appliqu

Twelve Essential Trends to Look More Stylish in Fall 08

Sarah Hathorn asked:

The department stores are beginning to stock their floors with the latest fall fashions and trends. Do you ever go shopping for a few new items to modernize your look and come home empty handed, feeling overwhelmed? Every professional woman needs to understand how to look at the newest trends, and decide what they want to incorporate in order to look contemporary and age appropriate. When you update your look to include a few modern styles, it conveys to the working world that you care about your image, stay abreast of fashion and want to look powerful, but chic. For years, as a Store Manager for Macy's, I used to see women come into the store and aimlessly become frustrated and confused, looking for a few fun pieces and not knowing where to spend their hard-earned dollars. In this article I will share with you my twelve "must-have's," which will help you remain focused and budget-conscious while shopping to pick up a few trendy pieces to update your closet basics. Get ready! Here's my personal trend shopping list for every woman who wants a classic-stylish look for fall.

1). Suits: Retro-Style

This season we are seeing a return of the retro power suit. If you need a new suit this fall for work or dress, look for a skirted suit or a pantsuit with a straight and narrow look, a timeless style. The season's new fabrics will be woolen tweeds, leopard prints and boiled-knits. You will also find more detailing on jackets like military-inspired epaulets. If you are shopping for an evening suit, menswear styles for women return this season with tuxedo suits perfect for any black tie affair.

2). Dresses: Every Woman Needs One

The dress returns and goes beyond last season's big sheath and shift trend. This fall the designers are creating flourishing floral prints, frilly silhouettes, tailored sheaths, hourglass silhouettes, ladylike shirtdresses, and flirty Bohemian styles. For evening dresses, sophisticated elegance is seen in feminine lace cocktail designs, vibrant-colored velvets replacing the dark colors of last winter, and sweeping silk gowns in gold taffeta. Want to look slimmer? Dresses in any style are key items for every woman, designed to show her shapely legs, a smaller area of the body - creating a slimmer silhouette. Every modern woman should own a few dresses for work and play.

3). Skirts: Slim or Full

This season we see full, flirty skirts, which will be the latest trend. These will be in A-line or dirndl styles, in graphic prints, lace, floral, metallic or solids with great detailing. These fuller skirts look best on everyone when they are hemmed to hit you at mid-knee. With a fuller skirt it is key to balance the proportion with a more fitted top. These skirts can transition to a business casual day at the office when you pair them with a placket-front blouse or a classic twin set. Pencil and straight skirts continue to reign this season for that classic-elegant look. From all my years in the retail fashion and image consulting business, I haven't found a woman yet who doesn't look great in one of these four skirt styles. Try on a few styles and see which ones look best on you.

4). The Modern Classic White Shirt

I'm so delighted that this trend continues as I coach my clients that this is the one item that every woman needs on her wardrobe essential list. This season look for an updated style. It can have ruffles for a feminine look, three-quarter lantern sleeves for a more dramatic look, princess seams running through the silhouette creating a slimming look, or an updated shirttail that you choose to let hang over your pants for a more modern twist on an old classic item. I love my white shirts and I own several of them. I wear my new updated styles with jeans on a fall day, with my black suit for a more powerful look, or with suede or corduroy pants for that country chic style. If you find a few styles you like, stock up on these great basics to round out your wardrobe.

5). Feminine & Sexy Blouses

Ultra feminine and girly blouses continue to come in exquisite fabrics with frills, ruffles or pintucks. Reinvented lace blouses are the chicest, sexiest items to own for fall. The lace top has a sexy hint of peek-a-boo to add a bit of drama to any ensemble. Everyone needs a few of these great dressy blouses when a dressier style is needed for an event. Pair these blouses with black pants or a neutral-toned pencil/straight skirt for an elegant and sophisticated, yet feminine look. These new tops are great to wear on date night coordinated with a pair of indigo premium denim pants and dressy sandals or stilettos.

6). Pants: Slim to The New Wider Leg

Depending on your shape, this season you have a lot of choices. Slim leg styles continue and are best when worn with floaty-style tops. The tailored straight leg trouser is a great classic style that everyone can wear - but be daring and try one in a new menswear pinstripe or updated tweed. The new wider leg trouser is the hot item in pants this season. Last season we saw the barely wide leg and now it goes more dramatic. This wider-leg version looks perfect on a woman with an inverted triangle shape or boyish hips.

7). Chic Coats

Every woman I know needs at least one statement coat in her closet. It doesn't have to be a heavy wool coat if you live out west or in the south; it could be a trench coat or a lightweight wool style. Coats also keep you stylish when you are out in the rain or snow. Look for a fun, statement coat like an updated trench coat with a military influence, the new oval silhouette, the quilted coat, a leather biker style, a pea coat, a cape, or a coat with an exaggerated architectural collar. There are some great new modern styles this year to layer up and keep you toasty warm no matter where you live.

8). Stylish Sweaters

Cardigans remain strong this year and I personally love them for great layering. Have you ever noticed that something magical happens when you add a great cardigan sweater over a typical pair of dress trousers or jeans with a tailored blouse? Instantly you look more polished and professional. I think these are a great alternative to jackets in a business casual work environment or on casual Fridays. This season you will see the cardigan in chunky knits, layered with a belt. Cabled sweaters will also be big this fall. Dressier sweaters will be embellished with crystal beads, and metallic threads for a more luxurious feel. Look for some great colors, and add something really comfortable and cozy to your wardrobe.

9). Statement Jewelry

This season jewelry is bold and elegant. Shop for crystal cuffs, architectural-shaped necklaces, large retro hoop earrings, and multi-strand necklaces of beads or pearls. If you aren't comfortable wearing the large artsy modern necklaces, and you have a more conservative style, add a pair of small wide hoop earrings or long multiple strands of pearls, like Coco Channel, to your collection.

10). Newest, Hottest, Latest Shoes & Boots

Do you have a shoe fetish? Well, this season you can have your pick of all types of shoes from flats to sky-high heels. The hot trends are contrast-toe tips, cone and/or banana heels, wide straps, and perforation detailing. In boots, ankle boots return with updated buckles and zippers, which give them an alluring feel. These are great to wear with work trousers, or if you are young, wear them with colored tights under dresses and skirts. High heel pumps and stilettos are still timeless classics for those dressier occasions. If you're a bit more dramatic, you can express your style with some edgier options with architectural accents like cutouts and trendy heels. The flat continues to be a basic to be worn with jeans.

11). The It-Bag

Medium-sized bags are the newest trend in handbags this season. Shop for the latest styles like a boho-style bag with suede and fringe detailing, a classic clutch, or go for that country casual feel with a satchel made out of alligator or suede. The newest style for fall is the top frame bag which is a structured handbag made out of crocodile leather with a short handle. It's a great new item to add to your essentials because it is a classic, tailored bag.

12). Accent Pieces

Belts and scarves are great accent pieces that can give your outfits a lot of style. This season belts are both narrow and wide. Use one to help you create the hint of a waistline, unless you have a prominent tummy area. If you do not have a waistline, don't emphasize it. If you are curvy or triangle-shaped, use this belt as an accent to show off your curves. Short, graphic scarves return this season. Use beautiful scarves to add some color up by your face and divert the to give attention upward and away from your problem areas.

Keeping up with trends and incorporating them into your seasonal wardrobe is fun, once you understand what they are. Oftentimes, when clients feel they look dowdy or matronly, it's because they are not incorporating a few modern touches into their ensembles. If you are on a budget for fall, find three or four of these "must-have's" and let them work to create an updated, stylish look for your business wardrobe.

Top Five Items One Must Own to Become the Ultimate Boho-Chic Chick

Alexandra Zeb asked:

In my opinion, there's more to being bohemian than style, it's an attitude! Everyday I see celebrities like Mary-Kate Olsen and Sienna Miller waltz down the streets of Manhattan, looking as if they don't have a care in the world. The boho-chic chick's personality is a down-to-earth, natural, and breezy personality, hence the floaty articles they drape themselves in. Here is a list of the top five items one must have to obtain ultimate boho-chic-dom...

1. Ugg Boots for winter, neutral-colored flats or strappy flat sandals for summer. As I'm sure you've all noticed, Ugg Boots are practically taking over the streets of Los Angeles and New York City in large hordes that look somewhat similar to small dogs. Personally, I think they are hideous, but I've been told the sheer comfort and warmth of Ugg's is purely remarkable. To the point where I'm about to finally go out and buy myself a pair. Besides, I'm certainly not a gal to tell another gal to fore go comfort for some outrageously uncomfortable stilettos! No way! More power to you for sticking to your guns!

In the summertime, neutral colored flats are a healthy and comfortable substitute for your Ugg's. Either that or find a pair of fun, flat strappy sandals in tan, brown, white, black, or even metallic colors to mix things up a bit.

2. Big Shades. Yes, we've all seen how important it is to own (at least) one pair of ridiculously large sunglasses that covers up to 2/3 of your face. My favorite aspect of big shades is the part where you can neglect to put on any makeup at all, save for some lip gloss if you're feeling up to it (which I'm usually not). It is the perfect solution to the lazy girl's day. I have stolen this advice from the very wise and savvy fashion guru, Victoria Beckham. For those of you New York City chicas, I just recently purchased a pair of Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses from Loehmann's at a heavenly $98. For those of you who do not have a Loehmann's or a Century 21 in your backyard, simply check out your local TJ Maxx or Marshall's to see if they have any discount designer shades. No one said you have to spend half of a month's paycheck on sunglasses!

3. Distressed Jeans of the skinny and slightly flare variety. Of course everyone knows by now that in order to comfortably tuck your jeans into the Ugg Boots, you must own a pair of skinny jeans. Advisory: for those of you who wear your jeans outside of the Ugg boot, please stop. This is fashion suicide.

4. Floppy beret in the winter. Fedora in the summer. This winter's hat phenomenon could be seen in the form of the floppy beret. Celebrities like Jennifer Garner topped their tresses with this magnificently flattering piece, particularly for those who have longer hair. In the summer, nothing spells chic better than donning a classy, tan-colored fedora -- a style we have seen best rocked by songstress Alicia Keyes.

5. Last but not least comes the jewelry. Complimentary jewelry is very important to finish up the boho-chic look. Choose the wrong type accessory, and you could, dare I say it, be arrested by the fashion police (or by Naomi Campbell). So listen carefully. As with many styles, layers are very important when accessorizing. Whether it be wearing multiple bangles on each arm, or wearing multiple necklaces, you really can't go wrong with the layered look. When adding accessories to your jewelry bin, experiment with different metallics and patterns, get wild with animal prints or weed out jewelry that has an earthy-feel. Small hints of leather, feathers, or natural rock will go perfectly with the green theme that boho-chic epitomizes.

And remember, you ultimate boho-chic you, that life is far too short to sweat the small stuff!
